Rotate Your Stock

We get many letters and questions to the site asking how long do the bags last? Why ask that question? Some of you find that bags are puncturing, so that's why "rotating your stock" is so important.

It's better to be safe than sorry. By that I mean when you have a six month or a year stockpile, it's alarming when you find that some of the bags' contents are "no good" due to punctured bags.

It's tempting to just dehydrate everything in sight then to sit back and think "my job is done". If you rotate your dehydrated goodies, you'll find those punctured bags sooner and you'll know what needs replacing. You do this on a monthly basis.

Try not to overfill your bags in the first place. Try this tip: when you've filled your bag and added its oxypack, then clamp the bag in your vacuum-sealing machine, and pat the contents down as flat as you can. Then you can proceed with the vacuum-sealing.

As an extra precaution against punctures, I wrap my packages in cling wrap so there's no sharp corners.

See this page regarding: cling wrap.
