Happy Father's Day, Dad!

More often than not, it is "mom" who takes care of "dad" -- especially in the health and food department. So let's pay special attention to our hard working dad on his day, this Sunday, June 16.

Even if your dad aspires to be the chef in your family, mom still keeps an "eagle eye" on what the kids get fed - no matter who ends up cooking it.

I was watching a "How's That Made" type of show on TV the other night, and the topic was "candy". I was amazed at the amount of candy the whole world consumes. Oh, and potato chips are gobbled down in mass quantities too. I know, I used to be guilty of that!

It was mind boggling - not only the quantity personally consumed, but the sheer quantity in which the manufacturers make the stuff to meet demand! We're talking billions and billions of pieces of candy every day to feed the globe's sweet-tooth addiction - made in factories whose footprint would engulf a small town!

Kinda makes you cringe, doesn't it? The problem with candy is its accessibility and portability. Think you don't have time to eat a proper meal? Pop a candy bar in your mouth. Feeling tired? Eat a candy bar. Problem: too much sugar wreaking havoc in your system. Ugh.

So, on this Father's day, forgo the box of candies, or the triangular shaped Toblerone that I always get my dad, and treat him to some good old fashioned fruits and veggies instead! Or, safer yet, a good old tie! (Who wears those to work anymore?) So, until next month, have a good day with your dad, and for those of you whose dads aren't with you anymore, I'm sure he'll be in your thoughts -- and he'll hear and appreciate them.
