Living in Taxing Times

Welcome - to issue 15 of
Easy Food Dehydrating Depot!

Yes, it's that time of year when all the good US citizens will have filed their taxes. It's not a case of paying taxes that irritates me, as some government services are a necessity, but it's the wasteful way our taxes are spent that really causes angst to me and in many households across this wonderful land (of the not-so-free).
Yet the Government has the nerve to tell us to stick to a family budget, and to cut back on non-necessities (so we can afford to fill up our gas tanks). Yet there they are, holding an $800,000+ Las Vegas Convention for 'good employees' - complete with clowns, and electronic gifts, and commemorative coins - all on the taxpayer. The current Administration has known about this for at least a year and is trying to keep quiet about it ... after claiming they want to clamp down on wasteful spending! Then the GSA (General Services Administration) YouTube video went viral, of the vacationing participants!
But ask yourself this: What were the employees being rewarded for? Did it mean they were being rewarded for meeting budgets, deadlines, and in general doing something that actually helps this country? Like voting "yes" for the Keystone Pipeline that not only would create jobs, but would bring down the price of gasoline nationwide?
I don't know what happened at the Las Vegas 'party', as I wasn't there. Maybe it's a case of "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas", as the saying goes. I'll leave that up to you to decide for yourself whether that was a good use of taxpayers money ...

Bags a Poppin'?

Andy in Wisconsin wrote to say his vacuum bags were popping after vacuuming and could I help him out?
Andy's answer is here: FAQ, page 3.

Help! How Much Do Oxypacks Cost?

Julie was having a hard time finding where to buy the oxygen packs. If you are on a mobile device, you may have to scroll the site to the right hand column to find the Amazon ads. Amazon tends to have the best deals and I buy my oxy packs from there too. Here's the oxygen pack page so you can check it out: Oxygen Packs.

Can You Rehydrate Fruit at all?

Curtis wrote in to ask if you can rehydrate fruit. Yes you can, such as apples for apple pies. For the most part, we tend to eat dehydrated fruit as snacks, e.g. raisins, prunes, and apricots.

Can You Dehydrate Eggs?

Yes Mariana, you can dehydrate eggs, and I believe you can do this safely at home by scrambling the eggs first (don't add anything to them), heat gently until cooked through, then dehydrate. Of course, an easier way is to simply buy dehydrated eggs! Recommended site: Honeyville Farms.
